'Palazzi' Tenuta di Trinoro 2019
Perfect to give as a gift"Palazzi" by Tenuta di Trinoro is a successful Merlot of Tuscan origin, which is inspired by the great Bordeaux of Pomerol. At sight it is dense in color, full of a garnet red that gives off the nose aromas of sumptuous fruit among which particularly blackberries, cassis and violet stand out. Continue unraveling in more complex notes of blond tobacco, graphite and a melange of oriental spices. The mouthfeel is impressive but rich in finesse, silky bodied and enriched with well-polished tannins that lengthen in tasting towards a persistent aromatic finish.
The “Palazzi” from Tenuta di Trinoro is a beautiful expression of pure Merlot and represents one of the flagship labels of the winery in Sarteano. It is a red wine that originates in Tuscany, inspired by the great Bordeaux Merlots from the Pomerol area. An elegant, soft, and seductive wine that brings into the glass the best varietal characteristics of the grape, combined with the typical fruit ripeness of the mild and sunny climate of Tuscany and the minerality of the soils.
The wine “Palazzi” is born in the southern part of Tuscany, in that area of Val d’Orcia that stretches towards Umbria and Lazio. A estate of 200 hectares, which came to life in the 1990s. Thanks to a deep knowledge of Bordeaux, Andrea Franchetti realized that the clay-limestone and gravelly soils had many similarities with the soils of St. Emilion. The best parcels were planted with classic Bordeaux varieties, with cuttings from old vineyards in Pomerol. The suitable soils, high-density plantings, low yields, and a climate that ensures a perfect phenolic ripening of the grapes, allowing for the production of an excellent Merlot. Initially, the “Palazzi” was also made with Cabernet Franc, but after a period of reconsideration, it was reborn in 2009 as a pure Merlot, also taking advantage of a vintage with exceptional characteristics. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with a maceration on the skins of about 2 weeks. According to the Bordeaux style, the wine matures for 8 months in new French oak barriques and 11 months in cement tanks.
The “Palazzi” is a great Merlot in absolute terms. A clear expression of a noble grape variety and an extraordinary terroir, which gives the emotion of elegance combined with the almost fleshy richness of the fruit, capable of providing the sip with a harmony of rare gustatory balance. It presents itself with a rather intense garnet red. On the nose, it releases floral scents of violet, aromas of small dark berries, delicate spicy notes, and mineral nuances of graphite. On the palate, it has a soft and mature entry, with great richness and complexity aromatic, silky tannins, a fresh and very persistent finish.
