CHATEAU FIGEAC 2018 DESCRIPTION

Château Figeac is a prestigious label, dedicated to collectors and connoisseurs of high-end Bordeaux wines. It comes from a historic estate in Saint-Émilion, which has been famous for its production of excellence since the end of the 19th century. It has always been a certainty due to the magnificence of its terroir, the quality of its grapes and the meticulous work carried out in the vineyard and cellar. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot find a perfect balance, expressing a harmonious symphony of aromas that raises the wine to the highest level of Bordeaux production. Although it can be enjoyed with pleasure when young, it is a red that expresses its best characteristics after several years of ageing in the bottle.

The red Château Figeac was born in the heart of the terroir of Saint-Émilion. The estate covers 54 hectares in a single plot and is classified as ''Premier Grand Cru Classé''. The vineyards cover approximately 40 hectares so as to preserve a good biodiversity and overall balance of the natural ecosystem. The soils are composed of a deep alluvial pebble layer of quartz and silica, which rests on a sub-bottom of blue clays. The surface drains and the deeper layers retain water, providing an ideal habitat for vines. Between the rows of vines are the classic grape varieties of the area. The wine is a blend of Merlot (37%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Cabernet Franc 30%. The three varieties are harvested and vinified separately. After the classic fermentation with maceration on the skins, the wine ages for a long time in French oak barrels and completes its maturation in the bottle.

The Château Figeac wine is a fascinating and decidedly original red. Indeed, the presence of 2/3 Cabernet in a Saint-Émilion wine is quite rare in a land dominated by Merlot. A choice that gives it a slightly more austere and vertical character in its youth, but over time gives it great complexity and depth. To the eye it has a dark ruby red colour. The bouquet is of great elegance and opens on balsamic sensations, spicy hints, notes of undergrowth, tobacco, truffle, on a background of small dark berries. Remarkably structured, it has a dense and ripe tannic texture, well integrated with rich fruit, which lengthens into a very persistent finish.
