The Barolo ‘Terlo’ L’Astemia comes from one of the least extensive areas of the municipality of Barolo. With a total area of just twenty hectares, this cru is a true gem for enthusiasts of Piedmontese wines. The L’Astemia winery owns only one hectare within this official delimitation, a small share that allows for a tailored care throughout the entire supply chain. Historically, the grapes from Terlo have given structure and backbone to the classic Barolos of the past. The choice to vinify this parcel in purity arises to enhance an opulent and intense character, capable of narrating the complexity and power of Nebbiolo through a peculiar mineral and earthy profile.
The L’Astemia Barolo ‘Terlo’ comes from vineyards at an altitude between 330 and 350 meters above sea level, with a fortunate east-facing exposure. The soil consists of gray-blue marls of Tortonian origin, a sub-alkaline soil very rich in limestone and precious microelements. This geological composition allows for the creation of a Barolo of great tension and austerity. The agronomic management respects the rhythms of nature and aims to obtain grapes from optimal phenolic concentration. The position of the vineyard ensures a slow and constant maturation, an element that translates into an olfactory structure ready to evolve over years of aging.
In the winery, the Barolo ‘Terlo’ by L’Astemia undergoes a maturation process that lasts a total of forty-eight months. Of this period, at least twenty-four months take place in Slavonian oak barrels, where the wine acquires elegance and a noble complexity. On the nose, hints of licorice and floral notes emerge, evolving towards dark fruits and spices. On the palate, the tannins are very intense but at the same time smooth. A balsamic touch refreshes and lengthens the sip. This is a characterful red that pairs magnificently with red meats and game.
