NERO D'AVOLA 'HARMONIUM' FIRRIATO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Firriato's Harmonium already summarizes from its name its ability to combine the power of the Nero d'Avola grape variety and the harmonious style conferred by the winery. A wine born from the idea of creating a Nero D'Avola "supercru" that was an expression of the best grapes from the estate's most vocated plots. This intent, combined with Salvatore di Gaetano's firm belief in respecting the naturalness and enhancing the peculiarities of the famous Sicilian grape variety, resulted in a liquid emblem of class and elegance.

Harmonium red comes from the estate's best cru, namely those of Ferla, Beccaccia and Lepre. A strong oenological passion and love for the Trapani area led Salvatore di Gaetano to find the Firriato winery in the early 1980s. Several years of research and micro vinifications have enabled the producer to create a territorial and complete expression of the island's most famous native grape variety. After traditional manual harvesting, vinification occurs in stainless steel containers, followed by malolactic fermentation. The liquid ages in French and American oak barrels for about 12 months, followed by bottle ageing for another six.

Harmonium wine reveals itself in the glass with a dense ruby colour, enhanced by purplish highlights. The nose moves between territorial nuances, reminiscent of herbs, plum and carob to spicy ones of vanilla, clove and tobacco. In the mouth, it is soft, caressing and persuasive, a perfect marriage between the Mediterranean vibrancy of Nero d'Avola and a well-smoothed tannin. It envelops, engages, and satisfies. Impossible not to think of it over succulent game dishes or baked goats. Red velvet.
