Barbaresco 'Asili' Bruno Giacosa 2022
Rare wines
Perfect to give as a giftThe Barbaresco "Asili" by Giacosa is a monumental wine, of great charm and elegance, aged for 18 months in large barrels. It presents itself with fascinating aromas of wilted flowers, red fruit, and rhubarb. On the palate, it is elegant, savory, with excellent structure, impeccable tannins, and balanced freshness
The Asili of Giacosa is one of the mythological creatures of Barbaresco, a renowned cru that gives life to embroidered and intoxicating wines. Bruno Giacosa is perhaps the legend of Langa, and his recent passing has left an unfillable void in all wine enthusiasts. Immortal bottles from Bruno, which transcend the temporal dimension and enhance the aura of mystery and magic that often surrounds the decades-long evolution of a wine. Classic interpretations, yet so rich in details and nuances, both concrete and dreamy. About 20 hectares of vineyard, located between Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra, Barbaresco, and Castiglione Falletto, with an approach that has always been dedicated to tradition and respect for the land. Immortal Bruno.
The Barbaresco Asili comes from pure Nebbiolo grapes sourced from a single and historic vineyard of the same name. A legendary cru of Asili, compared by many to some Grand Cru Burgundies for its ability to create feminine wines with unparalleled elegance. The interpretation of the Bruno Giacosa winery is from always dedicated to classicism, therefore after a careful manual selection of the grapes, fermentation continues in the cellar in cement tanks and macerations that last quite long, at least 3 weeks. The aging takes place as per tradition in large oak barrels and lasts about 24 months.
The Asili descends into the glass with a ruby red color shifting towards garnet, typical of Nebbiolo. Immense liquid, there’s nothing to say, and it is perceived from the first olfaction that draws a portrait of Langa revisited in a feminine key. There are thus notes of licorice and raspberry, but the scene is dominated by floral hints, almost lysergic, reminiscent of bouquets of dog roses and violets. The sip does not betray expectations, it is tight yet sunny at the same time, as befits a great Barbaresco, revealing a finely grained tannin perfectly embedded. The persistence is extremely long. Unforgettable tasting, it is a wine to try at least once in a lifetime, and if possible even more. Magical.
