The Barolo Reserve "Vigna Rionda Etichetta Nera" by Massolino is a robust and important red wine. Its austere, concentrated and complex aromas evolve continuously over time. A great Piedmontese wine born from a maturation in large barrels and a total of 6 years in bottle

Massolino brings the name of Vigna Rionda even into its company sign, highlighting the importance that the most sought-after Cru of Serralunga holds within the family history. A vineyard of choice, defined by some as the “Grand Cru of Italy”, it is mentioned in local historical documents as part of the Marquisate of Saluzzo until 1340, when it became the property of the Falletti family, the protagonists of the invention of Barolo. Upon the death of Juliette Colbert, in 1860 the vineyard came under the care of the Opera Pia Barolo. Subsequent changes of ownership led to acquisitions by the Massolino family, starting in 1956: new parcels were added in 1967, 1985, and 1987, culminating in the consolidation of the largest area in ownership of the hill, about 3 hectares out of a total of 10.24 of the MGA.

“Vigna Rionda Etichetta Nera” is the most exclusive creation of Massolino, a celebration of a mythical terroir in an astonishing vintage. The vineyard, with its rounded shape, offers exposures that move from west to fullsouth and is characterized by the peculiar soils of the Lequio Formation, namely a complex stratification of sandy silt alternating with gray marls. The owned parcels rise to an altitude of around 300 meters above sea level: the vines are around or over 45 years old and, benefiting from a perfect thermal and water balance, bring Nebbiolo to perfect ripeness through a decidedly long growing cycle, enjoying remarkable and constant temperature excursions. Long fermentation and maceration take place in oak vats, where the malo-lactic fermentation also occurs, at around 30 °C. Maturation traditionally proceeds in large Slavonian barrels for 42 months, followed by further aging in bottle for 24 months.

“Vigna Rionda Etichetta Nera” by Massolino is a unique Riserva, offering its deep garnet red to the eye. Fascinating facets constantly evolving gratify the nose: from red fruits and floral notes, to damp underbrush, earthy and lymphatic, up to spicy and tobacco hints. The sip
