Claire and Florent Bejon ‘Pain Perdu’ Cabernet Franc represents a craft and genuine expression, an authentic manifestation of the territory and the characteristics of this black grape variety. It is the latest label launched by the couple Claire and Florent, winemakers located in the municipality of Saint-Germain-sur-Vienne, in the heart of the Loire wine region. The Domaine specializes in the cultivation and processing of Cabernet Franc, a grape that occupies almost the entire vineyard area available to the couple.
‘Pain Perdu’ Claire and Florent Bejon Cabernet Franc comes from 40-year-old vines of the same variety located in the municipality of Beaumont en Véron, on the opposite bank of the Loire River from the winery. Here, the plants are grown according to the principles of organic farming on calcareous soils, with a high presence of sand on the surface. Once fully ripe, the grapes are hand-harvested and vinified whole, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and about 3 weeks of skin maceration. The wine is therefore transferred partly into used oak barrels and partly into sandstone amphorae for maturation of a few months. The mass is finally bottled without undergoing any clarification or filtration and without any addition of sulfur dioxide.
In the glass, the Cabernet Franc from the Loire 'Pain Perdu' by Domaine Claire et Florent Bejon expresses a ruby red color. The aromatic profile is crisp, described by sensations of small red fruits supported by vegetal and spicy hints. On the palate, it is soft and juicy, with beautiful freshness and velvety tannins. With its pure and authentic personality, the 'Pain Perdu' is able to bring the aromas and flavors of the Loire into the glass.
