Chianti 'Vergine delle Rocce' Leonardo da Vinci 2022
The 'Vergine delle Rocce' by Villa da Vinci is an intense and full-bodied Chianti made from Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. An unmistakable symbol of Tuscany, with which it has an unbreakable bond, this Chianti presents the classic fruity and spicy aromas of cherry and black pepper, enveloping the mouth with soft and persistent tannins. A red to pair with a classic grilled meat and semi-aged cheeses.
The Chianti ‘Vergine delle Rocce’ from the Da Vinci I Capolavori collection of Cantine Leonardo Da Vinci is a fresh and accessible Chianti interpretation, resulting from a process entirely in steel. The name of this label pays homage to the famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, now housed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It is worth noting that there are two versions of this work, the first dated 1483-1486 and preserved in France, while the second is dated 1494-1508 and displayed at the National Gallery in London.
Da Vinci I Capolavori Cantine Leonardo Da Vinci Chianti ‘Vergine delle Rocce’ consists of a blend of Sangiovese (85%), Merlot (10%) and other red grapes (5%), grown in the hilly areas of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and surrounding municipalities. The altitude ranges from 40 to 130 meters above sea level while the soils are made up of Pliocene alluvial deposits rich in fossil shells. After the harvest, which takes place between September and October, the grapes are gently pressed and the mass is then conveyed in stainless steel tanks for controlled temperature alcoholic fermentation accompanied by about 10 days of maceration on the skins, during which brief but frequent pump-overs are performed. Still in steel, the wine matures for a few months until the final bottling.
The Chianti Da Vinci I Capolavori ‘Vergine delle Rocce’ from the Leonardo Da Vinci cooperative has a clear purple-red color. On the nose, one can perceive notes of aromatic herbs and fresh red fruits like cherry, combined with spicy hints of black pepper. On the palate, it is intense, balanced and full-bodied, with excellent freshness, featuring soft tannins that lead to a finish of good persistence characterized by a fruity aftertaste.
