
Greco 'Janare' La Guardiense 2024
The Greco del Sannio "Janare" is a fresh white wine with savory notes, perfect to pair with fish or vegetable dishes. On the nose, it develops fragrant and typical notes of citrus, peach, green apple, chamomile, and herbal sensations. It has a balanced, clear, and smooth body, energized by a lively marine freshness.
The Greco "Janare" by La Guardiense is part of the high-end line of the famous Campanian winery. The name refers to the term used in Sannio to describe witches, within the traditional peasant culture of the area. It is a selection of wines created to enhance the quality of the best parcels managed by the estate and to showcase the authentic face of ancient local varieties. The Greco, in particular, is a grape variety with great personality and produces one of the longest-lived whites of our peninsula. Citrusy, fresh, and sapid, it offers a satisfying sip and extraordinary drinkability.
“Janare” is the highest expression of Greco, made by one of the most important realities in the Benevento area. La Guardiense is a dynamic cooperative that has decided to focus on enhancing the heritage of native Campanian grape varieties with quality wines capable of directly expressing the terroir. The grapes come from a selection of the 23 hectares of Greco vineyards of the estate, which are are located at an altitude between 300 and 350 meters above sea level, in the wonderful hilly area of Guardia Sanframondi. The vines are cultivated on calcareous-clay soils, particularly suitable for the needs of white grape varieties. At the end of the harvest, the bunches undergo a cryomaceration process, followed by a gentle pressing of the grapes in the absence of oxygen to avoid oxidation. The must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and ages for a few months in steel vats before being bottled.
The white Greco "Janare" from La Guardiense winery is a wine of good structure and intensity, very suitable for gastronomic pairings with intense-tasting seafood dishes, shellfish, and mixed fried foods. It should definitely be tried with buffalo mozzarella. In the glass, it presents a bright, light straw-yellow color. On the nose, it is characterized by fragrant aromas of citrus, lime, grapefruit, aromas of white-fleshed fruit, Granny Smith apple, peach, floral nuances, and herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. At the palate is tense and clear, with a vertical sip, deep and persistent fruity aromas, leading to a savory finish and vibrant freshness.
