Cannonau Riserva 'Inu' Contini 2019
Cannonau Riserva 'Inu' Contini is a rich and intense Sardinian red wine made from Cannonau and other local red grapes. Ageing in wood gives it subtle spicy nuances of liquorice and cinnamon, which accompany notes of red fruits, plum and blackberry, while on the palate it offers a full and enveloping mouthfeel, with silky tannins and a long, persistent finish. Pair with typical Sardinian meat dishes
The Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva 'Inu' from the family-run Contini estate is a full-bodied and enveloping interpretation of Sardinia's most famous grape variety. We are in the heart of the Sinis peninsula, a land of great historical and scenic interest, where the Contini family has been committed to promoting the region's excellent wines since the late 19th century. Cannonau 'Inu' belongs to the 'Eccellenze' line, representing the finest expression of Cannonau produced by the winery.
Contini's 'Inu' Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva comes from a solid base of Cannonau grapes, to which 10% of other black grape varieties from the area are added. Specifically, it is a selection of grapes from the Terre di Ossidiana, Monte Arci and part of central Sardinia vineyards, planted on volcanic soils at altitudes of up to 200 metres above sea level. After harvesting, the grapes are transferred to the winery and vinified in red through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. This is followed by soft pressing and then ageing for 12 months in first and second passage barriques and wooden tonneaux before bottling and further ageing for at least 6 months in glass.
Contini Riserva 'Inu' Cannonau di Sardegna has a dark ruby red colour with garnet reflections. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe black berries and plum, combined with hints of liquorice and spices such as cinnamon. Full, rich and enveloping on the palate, with a silky tannic texture and a pleasant savoury finish that supports the good overall structure. Precisely because of its considerable structure, this Cannonau needs to be paired with flavourful dishes, such as first courses and main courses of red meat or mature cheeses.
