Callmewine's Favourites
Organic and biodynamicThe "L. D'Ange" by Alexandre Bain is a French white wine of enveloping intensity made from Sauvignon grapes from the municipality of Tracy-sur-Loire, in the heart of the Pouilly Fumé wine region, in the Loire Valley. It ages for a minimum of 48 months in large used oak barrels and expresses a rich and full sensory profile, releasing aromas of honey, incense, and spices against a citrus and aromatic herb background, revealing a full, fresh, and distinctly mineral sip. Artisanal wine, made as it once was - Biodynamic - Organic
“L. D’Ange” is a white wine that comes from the strong hands and stubborn mind of Alexandre Bain, a winemaker from another time, who cultivates his vines in Tracy-sur-Loire. The area is the renowned Poully-Fumé, an incredibly suited territory especially for the cultivation of Sauvignon. Alexandre, after years of studies and various experiences across France, arrived at his vineyards in 2007, with the firm decision to follow the pillars that uphold biodynamic philosophy. In total contrast to the rigorous production nearby in the more eastern part of the Loire Valley, his intent is to extract as much terroir as possible from his wines.
“L. D’Ange” Alexandre Bain is a pure Sauvignon. The soil on which the vines grow is mainly composed of limestone and clay, mixed with layers of pebbles and with the presence of silica, which gives that characteristic flint note to the Sauvignon. In the vineyard, Alexandre mostly uses his trusted horse Phenomenon for most operations, to ensure that the soil is not compacted.and therefore has a greater possibility of oxygenation. The fermentation of the grapes is spontaneous with the sole use of indigenous yeasts, sulfur is banned, except in minimal quantities before bottling and only in the vintages that require it. 48 are the months of aging in used oak barrels.
The Sauvignon “L. D’Ange” immediately strikes with its wonderful yellow with golden, luminous and attractive reflections. The olfactory tapestry has a truly wide range: the sweetness of honey blends with the depth of sweet spices and incense, then bringing out notes of medlar and aromatic herbs, intertwined with slight hints of citrus fruit. No less is the sip, full and dense: the savory finish crowns the enveloping and soft drink. It is a wine that is eager, just like Phenomenon, the horse of Alexandre. And while the senses are captivated by the sip, the mind immediately thinks of the famous phrase by Mario Soldati “wine is the poetry of the earth.”
