Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 'Cocciapazza' Torre dei Beati 2021
Organic and biodynamicThe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Cocciapazza" Riserva is a great genuine expression of the highly regarded terroir of Loreto Aprutino, macerated for 30 days on the skins and aged for 22 months in barrique. The aromatic profile alternates between red fruit and licorice, cocoa, and tobacco, while the taste is balanced and powerful, with great volume and very long persistence.
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva "Cocciapazza" represents a full-bodied and enveloping interpretation crafted by the organic winery Torre dei Beati. At the helm of this Abruzzese production reality, located in Loreto Aprutino, are the couple Fausto Albanesi and Adriana Galasso, who manage the 21 hectares of property through a sustainable agronomic approach. The unique position of the vineyards, nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso, creates a unique microclimate, resulting from the simultaneous influence of temperate sea breezes and the cold descending from the mountain. The name 'Cocciapazza' derives from the old name of the area where the vines are located.
Torre dei Beati Riserva Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "Cocciapazza" is produced exclusively from Montepulciano grapes grown on clay-limestone soils, at 250 meters above sea level. The vines, trained in the Abruzzese pergola style according to the principles of certified organic farming, were planted in 1972. The harvest is carried out by hand in a staggered manner, usually with 3 passes, selecting the grapes from the parts from vineyards that enjoy the best pedoclimatic conditions. The resulting alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration on the skins, followed by 20 months of maturation in French oak barriques, 70% of which are new. After a few months of further resting in the bottle, the wine is finally ready to be marketed.
The ‘Cocciapazza’ Riserva Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Torre dei Beati has an impenetrable ruby red color. The aromatic spectrum is defined by rich and pleasant notes of black plum, currant, and blueberry jam, sour cherry, violet, and balsamic herbs, accompanied by hints of licorice, black pepper, chocolate, and tobacco. The tasting, full and structured, shows enveloping warmth, tasty sapidity, and a silky tannic texture, with a fruity finish of astonishing persistence.
