Piccini's Rosso 'Histrio' is an organic wine that matures briefly in amphorae, a reference to the historical heritage of Tuscan and Mediterranean wine. The amphora is used as a synthesis between wood and steel containers, as it allows a slight micro-oxygenation, with less influence on the wine's profile than wood. Rich in fruity scents, it has slight earthy and iodine reminiscences. The palate is very fresh, with a slightly balsamic profile and a long, fragrant finish. Perfect with juicy and light meat dishes
The extensive Piccini winery presents the Rosso 'Histrio', afresh expression of good depth that benefits from a brief passage in terracotta amphorae. Piccini's long history began in 1882, when the first oenological generation of the family started producing wine from just 7 hectares of vines. Over the years, the Piccini's entrepreneurial vision has led the estate towards progressive expansion and modernisation, reaching the current extension of over 200 hectares under vine, distributed in various prestigious areas of Tuscany and beyond.
The Piccini Rosso 'Histrio' derives from a blend dominated by Sangiovese (90%), enriched by 10% Malvasia Nera, a variety grown under a certified organic system. After harvesting, the grapes are vinified in red with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is placed to mature for a few months in terracotta amphorae, a step that contributes to forging the character of this red wine. The definitive release takes place after a further appropriate resting period in the bottle.
The Rosso Piccini 'Histrio' presents itself in the glass with a luminous ruby hue. On the nose, one perceives inviting hints of small red fruits reminiscent of raspberry and redcurrant, accompanied by mineral hints of iodine and iron, as well as balsamic menthol nuances that emerge at the close. The palate stands out for its freshness and pleasantness, with the soft tannic texture contributing to the depth of the finish together with fine fruity and floral tones. To fully enjoy this wine, we recommend serving it at room temperature in combination with structured dishes such as mature cheeses or red meat and game dishes.
