ArtisanalThe "A" Label by Giorgio Mercandelli is a philosophical and biotic red with a conceptual flavor. Plants of over 100 years of age, grown on the lands of the Oltrepò, give "light" to this spiritual expression, a connection between man and earth, able to enclose the strength, rhythm and frequency of nature in one sip. The palate is soft and of fine texture, concentrated and rich in aromas of earth and fruit, with an interminable finish.
The label A is a red overwhelming for power and texture, a unique interpretation capable of transcending grape variety and area of origin. A philosophy of thought that belongs to Giorgio Mercandelli, founder of Cantina Alchemica, which, although difficult to understand, undeniably has a reflection in the glass. Faceted, multifaceted, exciting liquids. Giorgio is a convinced supporter of "biotic" wine in which the purity of the original fruit is exalted, a true catalyst of the memory of the plant but also of those who have come into contact with it at a certain moment. Very old plants, some over 150 years old, and extremely low yields are another reason for the absolute quality of the liquids produced in Canneto Pavese. Given the rarity of the bottles, it is an experience that should be had at least once in a lifetime.
The red Etichetta A is produced from local native grapes, of which Giorgio does not specify the variety, coming from a vineyard of about 40 years. To maintain the purity and health of the fruit intact, the vines undergo no treatment, not even copper and sulfur. After the manual harvest of the bunches, the grapes are taken to the winery to start the winemaking process that Giorgio defines as alchemical. Spontaneous fermentation in special containers made of resin and silicon, and aging in the same for a period that lasts up to 12 months. Giorgio claims that as soon as bottled, the wine returns to have the taste and smell of water, and that to fully enjoy it, one must wait about 5-7 years.
The wine Etichetta A presents itself in the glass with a compact ruby color and great intensity. Disconcerting and chameleonic, like any bottle produced by Giorgio, it rises from the glass in a mix of earth, cocoa, ripe plum, and leather. The cohesion with which the liquid expresses itself is one of the most exciting characteristics, but the tasting also reveals an authentic champion, where extractive power and silky texture come together to fade into a kilometer-long persistence. It surprises, overturns, conquers. An unforgettable bottle, without fear of contradiction.
