'Pino di Biserno' Tenuta di Biserno 2023
Perfect to give as a giftThe "Pino di Biserno" from the Tuscan estate of Antinori is a red of character and great finesse. A blend of several red grape varieties that are mostly aged in new and used barriques. Well-measured wood that does not overwhelm the nose, whispering spicy and herbal sensations, and concentrating a subtle and fine liquid, Mediterranean with well-integrated and mature tannins.
The "Pino di Biserno" from the Tenuta di Biserno is a intense and Mediterranean Bordeaux blend, originating from the beautiful hilly territory of Alta Maremma Toscana. It is a Supertuscan made from Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, all international grape varieties that have adapted wonderfully to the climate and soils of this precious stretch of the Tuscan coast, yielding mature, rich, and harmonious reds.
The red "Pino di Biserno" comes to life in the wonderful vineyards of the Tenuta di Biserno, discovered by Lodovico Antinori in 1995. This plot borders Bibbona to the north and Bolgheri to the south, characterized by alluvial soils composed of limestone, clay, and smooth pebbles, ensuring good drainage. In the areas richest in clay, Merlot has been planted, while the areas richer in conglomerate and limestone have been planted with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. The vines are trained to a spurred cordon and are still surrounded by large wooded areas and olive groves. The climate is typically Mediterranean, warm and dry, mitigated only by the breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, which soften the temperatures allowing a slow and gradual ripening of the grapes. Harvests and fermentations occur separately based on the ripening period of the grapes. After gentle crushing and de-stemming, fermentations take place in steel. 90% of the wine matures for 12 months in new and used barriques while 10% in steel.
The "Pino di Biserno" is a red that well represents the characteristic harmonious and mature profile that Bordeaux grapes offer in the Maremma Toscana. Despite the use of international grape varieties, it is a wine with a typically territorial character. In the glass, it presents a beautiful intense ruby red. The bouquet is characterized by aromas of small dark berries, currant, blackberry, blueberry, hints of herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, spicy nuances and slight woody notes. The sip is important, with a beautiful structure, with a tannic texture well balanced by rich and deep fruit. The finish is refreshing and closes on delicately spicy notes.
