Barbaresco 'Martinenga' Marchesi di Gresy 2020
The Barbaresco "Martinenga" by Marchesi di Gresy is a complex and very intense red wine, aged for 12 months in large barrels with a brief passage in barrique. Notes of berries stand out combined with intense spicy nuances and mineral hints. On the palate, it is fresh and majestic, rich and balanced.
Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Gresy introduces the Barbaresco ‘Martinenga’, a fine Nebbiolo of rare complexity and elegance. This label comes from the homonymous vineyard, which represents the pride of the winery, from which the most important wines are produced and to which special attention is given. The Geographical Indication “Martinenga” is one of the most vocated in the entire area and is located in the heart of the municipality of Barbaresco, bordering the famous crus of Asili and Rabaja. Moreover, this plot has been exclusively owned by the Marchesi di Gresy since as far back as 1797, effectively configuring itself as a “monopole” to put it in French, the only one in the entire denomination.
Marchesi di Gresy Barbaresco ‘Martinenga’ is a 100% Nebbiolo from vines planted in soils rich in marl and limestone with a south and southwest exposure, situated between 220 and 290 meters above sea level. Following the harvest, the grapes are transferred to the winery for alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature with about 30 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation is fully carried out and the mass ages first for a year in new barriques, both first and second passage, then for an additional 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and finally for another year in bottle before commercialization.
The Barbaresco ‘Martinenga’ by Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Gresy has a brilliant garnet red color with slight orange reflections. From the glass emerge refined and broad aromas of violet, plum, cherry, berries, mint, dried flowers, tea leaves, blonde pipe tobacco, and cloves. Tasting harmonious, flavorful, and persistent, with a pleasant freshness that blends with dense yet noble tannins.
