Chardonnay 'Didacus' Planeta 2022 (Confezione)
Rare wines
Perfect to give as a giftThe "Didacus" Bianco is a Sicilian Chardonnay dedicated to the founder Diego Planeta and made from a small, old vineyard located on the shores of Lake Ulmo. It has a noble, creamy, and rich profile, of great elegance and character, with precious notes of apricot, honey, stone, and dried fruit
The renowned Sicilian winery Planeta presents the Chardonnay from Menfi ‘Didacus’, a prestigious and classy label, among the highest southern expressions of this noble white grape variety. As stated at the time by Diego Planeta himself, the historic founder of the winery to which this bottle pays homage, “Didacus” is the affectionate name his father Vito used to call him as a child when he misbehaved. Diego, who passed away in 2020, was undoubtedly one of the protagonists of the revival of Sicilian wine. The first vintage of this wine, produced in limited quantities, is represented by the 2014.
Menfi Chardonnay ‘Didacus’ Planeta is made from only Chardonnay grapes grown in the Ulmo district of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio, in the province of Agrigento, at about 230 meters above sea level. The planting of the rows, dating back to 1985, was carried out on soils composed of 62% clay, 29% silt, and 9% sand, with a high presence of limestone. Following the manual harvest and careful selection, the bunches are transferred to the winery where they are gently pressed. The resulting must then undergoes the fermentation process in barrique at controlled temperature, with malolactic fermentation carried out for 40%. After 10 months of aging in the same barriques, with periodic batonnage, the wine is finally bottled.
The ‘Didacus’ Chardonnay from Planeta has an intense straw yellow color. The olfactory spectrum evokes vivid and complex aromas of almond, citrus, pastry cream, sweet spices, and butter. Generous taste characterized by glyceric softness, full body, and pleasant salinity. A white wine of great elegance to pair with refined dishes, both from the sea and land, such as risottos or second courses based on flavorful fish or white meats.
