Con Vento' Castello del Terriccio 2024
"Con Vento" is a white wine from Tuscany made from Viognier and Sauvignon grapes, vinified and matured exclusively in steel. It takes its name from the farm-convent where the retired priests of the parishes were once hosted. It has aromas of white-fleshed fruit, citrus, aromatic herbs, and white flowers, developing a fresh, clear, and straightforward sip.
"Con Vento" by Castello del Terriccio was born in Tuscany in the area of Catellina Marittima, historically suited for viticulture: as early as between 800 and 500 BC, the Etruscans were the first to possess rudimentary vineyards in these lands. The Doglia Castle, named "del Terriccio," dates back to the Middle Ages and was a stronghold that protected the inhabitants from enemy attacks. In the 1900s, the estate was purchased by the Serafini Ferri Family, who restructured both the land and the building, making it an important hub for the export of corn to Europe. In 1975, Gian Annibale Rossi acquired the estate and turned it into a fundamental reference point for the production of wines of excellent quality.
The vineyards of "Con Vento" by Castello del Terriccio cover about 65 hectares of the total 1500 of the estate, dedicated to various crops including olive trees. An exceptional synergy between soil, climate, and labor has allowed for consistent production, especially enhancing the biodiversity around the vineyards to ensure the grapes of release its best potential: the solar exposure is excellent for a complete ripening of the bunches and the presence of iron and copper in the soil ensures excellent structure to the final product. The grape harvest is manual with a careful selection in the vineyard and in the cellar, followed by a cryomaceration for about 24 hours, subsequently accompanied by alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation in steel. It ages for 6 months on the fine lees.
The color of “Con Vento” from Castello del Terriccio is pale yellow with intense golden reflections. On the nose, it releases aromas of ripe white-fleshed fruit, aromatic herbs, and in the finish, citrus and herbal notes. On the palate, it is fresh, easy-drinking and pleasantly aromatic, for an interesting and unusual sip. It pairs perfectly with dishes based on shellfish and mollusks, smoked salmon, and light first courses; also interesting with fresh cheeses. A wine suitable for enjoyable aperitifs by the sea at sunset during the summer, sipping a product with simple and authentic flavors.
