Etna Bianco “Le Sabbie dell'Etna” by Firriato is a fresh and fragrant white, born from the volcanic soils of the northern slope of Etna. Produced at the Tenuta di Cavanera Etnea of Firriato, one of the most important and well-known Sicilian wineries, it is a blend of the two flagship grape varieties of the island: Carricante, a white grape variety symbol of the viticulture of the volcano, and Catarratto, an iconic grape variety widespread throughout Sicily, known for its great structure and olfactory power. A winning combination that results in a bottle containing the beauty and varietal richness of the Island of the Sun.
The Etna Bianco by Firriato is obtained from vineyards located on the northeastern slope of the volcano, on soils mainly composed of black sands mixed with clays at about 720 meters above sea level. A mountain terroir, with harsh winters and mild summers, allows for slow and linear maturation. The harvest is manual and takes place around the second decade of October. After a soft pressing of the grapes, the two grape varieties that make up the blend, Carricante and Catarratto, are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks, where they remain for about three months in contact with the noble lees. After blending, the wine rests in the bottle for an additional two months.
Le Sabbie dell’Etna by Firriato is a very versatile bottle. Its dual varietal composition is also reflected at the olfactory and tasting level. On the nose, the typical aromas of Carricante emerge: white and yellow flowers, aromatic herbs, and delicate savory notes. On the palate, the great structure of Catarratto dominates, with aromas of yellow peach and ripe pear, along with light hints of tropical fruit. Good persistence and a fresh, mineral finish invite pairing with seafood dishes, grilled fish, and shellfish.
