Thanks to this set of factors, Merlot, an international variety that finds one of its ideal homes in Tuscany, manages to express itself with structure and balance, providing the palate and nose with an elegant complexity along with a beautiful breadth. Frescobaldi, one of the oldest and most important wine producers in the world, continues to amaze us with this "Lamaione".
The Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi "Lamaione" originates from the grapes of an international vine particularly attracted to the terroir of Tuscany, Merlot. This variety is cultivated by the Frescobaldi winery in the vineyards of the Tenuta di CastelGiocondo, at about 300 meters above sea level, with a southwest exposure. We are within a terroir characterized by clay, limestone, and mineral elements, where the vines, which are about 20 years old, grow using the guyot system. The must ferments in stainless steel containers,macerating on the skins for 4 weeks. It is then followed by the aging phase, during which the wine remains to age in new barriques 90% for 24 months.
The “Lamaione” by Frescobaldi reveals itself to the eye with a concentrated color reminiscent of ruby, slightly tending towards garnet at the rim. The nose is full, enveloped by pronounced olfactory notes, recalling jammy fruit and sweet spices, particularly highlighting a note of vanilla. On the palate, it is broad and captivating, with excellent structure, well-crafted tannins, and a fruity final persistence that continues in the aftertaste. A bottle that pairs excellently with meat main courses, especially those characterized by long cooking times: try it with a braised dish or a stew.
