The Muscat 'Freyheit' from the biodynamic Weingut Heinrich is an artisanal white wine that is striking in its complexity and energy, the result of a production approach founded on the dictates of biodynamics. The 'Freyheit' selection includes sincere and genuine expressions made through spontaneous fermentation, prolonged maceration on the skins and long ageing on the fine lees, all in pursuit of maximum vitality and authenticity of expression.
Weingut Heinrich's 'Freyheit' Muscat is made from a blend of certified organically and biodynamically cultivated Muskat Ottonel (85%) and Pinot Blanc (15%) grapes. In particular, the vineyards are planted partly on the sandstone, limestone and mica schist-rich soils of the eastern slopes of the Leitha mountains and partly on the sandy and gravelly soils of the Parndorf plateau. Following the harvest, which is strictly hand-picked in September, the grapes are placed in earthenware amphorae for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by approximately two weeks of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in amphorae, followed by 9 months of ageing on the fine lees before final bottling, which is carried out without prior filtration and without any addition of sulphites. A distinctive grey earthenware bottle is then adopted for the packaging, which recalls the material of the amphorae used.
The Muscat Weingut Heinrich 'Freyheit' is an intense golden yellow colour. Rich and intense aromas of grapefruit, fennel, persimmon and macerated flowers emerge from the glass, enhanced by nuances of coriander and wheat. The progression on the palate is ample and soft, creamy and enveloping, with a balancing freshness that accompanies the lingering taste finish.
