Verdejo 'Cantayano' Isaac Cantalapiedra 2023
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamic"Cantayano" from the Isaac Cantalapiedra winery is an authentic white wine based on Verdejo grown in the Castile and Leon region. The grapes are harvested from three different plots, left to macerate for 24 hours before pressing, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in steel tanks and oak barrels. The wine rests for 8 months on the lees and is bottled without filtration. Salty and refreshing, it is characterized by aromas of pear, white peach, and kiwi
Isaac Cantalapiedra presents the Verdejo ‘Cantayano’, a territorial expression with an incredible quality/price ratio. The Castilian Cantalapiedra family has passed down viticultural passion and winemaking knowledge in the Rueda area for three generations. It all began in 1949 with Heliodoro, who cultivated grapes for sale, later joined by his son Isaac. The turning point came in 2014 with the entry of Manuel, Heliodoro's grandson, who decided to start his own independent bodega together with his father. Most of the vineyard area of the winery is dedicated to Verdejo, the white grape variety symbol of Rueda.
The ‘Cantayano’ Cantalapiedra Viticultores Verdejo consists of the homonymous grape in purity, coming from vines aged between 20 and 30 years rooted in soils made up of clay, sand, and limestone, with an abundance of stones. The agronomic management is carried out in accordance with organic farming, supplemented by biodynamic practices. After manual harvesting, a short maceration on the skins of 24 hours takes place, followed by alcoholic fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts. The winemaking is done almost exclusively in steel tanks, with the exception of a small part that ferments in used French oak barrels. The subsequent aging period of 8 months on the fine lees is carried out partly in steel and partly in wood, without resorting to batonnage.
To the eye, Isaac Cantalapiedra Verdejo ‘Cantayano’ takes on a deep straw yellow color. On the nose, fruity aromas of pear, white peach, and kiwi follow, enriched by mineral tones. Vibrant and refreshing taste, agile and salty, with a persistent finish that is very consistent with the nose.
