Perfect to give as a gift"Bricco dell'Uccellone" is a wine that has revolutionized the perception of Barbera, giving it, through aging in barriques, structure, body, and softness. On the nose, it expresses a rich and elegant bouquet, played on ripe fruit, spices, and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is robust and powerful, with sweet tannins and notable freshness.
The Bologna family of the Piedmontese winery Braida introduces the Barbera d’Asti ‘Bricco dell’Uccellone’, an expression with a full and structured personality that has had the merit of rewriting the standards of Barbera wines. In fact, this iconic bottle was born with the 1982 vintage from Giacomo Bologna's desire to enhance the Barbera grape by working it in barrique at a time when these precious barrels were almost exclusively destined for renowned wines like Barolo and Barbaresco. The intuition proved to be visionary and opened a new oenological chapter for Barbera. The nickname ‘Uccellone’ represents the nickname of a woman who lived on the hill where the vineyards are located, so called in the village due to the bird-beak shape of her nose and her habit of always dressing in black.
The Barbera d’Asti ‘Bricco dell’Uccellone’ by Braida is a 100% Barbera from vines grown in Rocchetta Tanaro on clayey and sandy soils, at about 160 meters above sea level. In the winery, the grapes are subjected to to the classic red winemaking with controlled temperature alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and 20 days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent aging phase takes place in oak barriques for 12 months, followed by an additional year of bottle aging before commercialization.
The ‘Bricco dell’Uccellone’ Barbera d’Asti Braida is of a very intense and consistent ruby red color. The nose offers vivid and dense scents of red fruits, mint, and spices, with inviting hints of vanilla and licorice. Generous and warm is the taste, of great body and structure, with enveloping softness that is accompanied by excellent freshness and smooth tannins. The ‘Bricco dell’Uccellone’ is a Barbera with an imposing character that demands rich and succulent pairings, such as braised red meats or game.
