NERO D'AVOLA 'NERO DI LUPO' COS 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Nero d'Avola "Nero di Lupo" from the Sicilian winery Cos is a wine with a typically artisanal face, expressing limpidly and directly the best varietal characteristics of this extraordinary grape variety native to the southeastern area of Sicily. The choice of vinification only in cement preserves the most authentic personality of the grape, expressing the fragrant aromas of a rich, pulpy fruit and a pleasant freshness. It is a harmonious red with a flowing and agile sip, particularly ductile in gastronomic pairings with the tasty first courses of Sicilian cuisine or with meats with simple and quick cooking.

"Nero di Lupo" Nero d'Avola comes from one of the most important wineries in the Ragusa region. Cos cultivates about thirty hectares near Chiaramonte in the province of Vittoria. The dry, sunny climate and soils of a predominantly calcareous and sandy matrix, with the presence of clays and tuffs, are perfect for Nero d'Avola, which in this corner of Sicily expresses itself at the highest levels of quality. The vineyards are located at about 250 meters above sea level in various landscapes rich in biodiversity, characterized by the presence of olive, carob and almond trees. This is a reality that has been able to build a strong identity for itself thanks to precise choices and a very consistent wine philosophy. The vineyards are managed following biodynamic principles, with the utmost respect for the surrounding environment. Winemaking is conducted with minimal oenological intervention, favouring inert materials such as cement or dolium terracotta to preserve and enhance the varietal characteristics and aromas of excellent quality grapes.

Cos's "Nero di Lupo" wine is a unique wine with a strong personality. It is the child of a production philosophy aimed at always bringing to the forefront the grapes and the authentic flavour of the lands of Ragusa without mediation or compromise. The Nero d'Avola vines are grown on red soils of sand and limestone, which naturally limits yields, favouring the production of a few clusters with intense aromas. Fermentation is activated spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine rests for 12 months in cement before bottling. It shows a ruby red colour with youthful purple highlights. The nose expresses aromas of red fruits, hints of watermelon, and elegant nuances of cocoa, leather and coffee. The palate has a lively and spirited attack, with crisp-faced fruit and subtle tannins. The finish is fresh and with good flavour persistence. A great Nero d'Avola, an original and faithful expression of the terroir.
