Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore Brut 'Prior' Bortolomiol 2024
The “Prior” by Bortolomiol represents the first Prosecco Brut in the history of Valdobbiadene, produced since 1960. Fresh and expressive aromas of fruit, white flowers, citrus, and aromatic herbs enliven a lively, dry, balanced sip with good sapidity.
The Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore “Prior” by Bortolomiol is born in the heart of Valdobbiadene, the homeland of white wines known all over the world. The Bortolomiol family has historical roots in the field of winemaking. In 1949, Giuliano Bortolomiol founded the winery together with his brothers Labano and Guglielmo. A graduate of the Enological School of Conegliano, Giuliano decided to set up the work with modern processing and winemaking techniques, proving to be a thinker, an innovator, and a visionary. In 1960, the first Prosecco Brut was released on the market, later becoming a symbol of the activity; a few years later, together with eleven other producers, he founded the Consortium for the Protection of Prosecco wine from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, a fundamental institution for obtaining the DOC in 1969. Today, the activity is entirely female-led with Giuliano's granddaughters, who look to tradition and the future.
The vineyards of the Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore “Prior” by Bortolomiol are located on the Hills of Valdobbiadene; human intervention is conscious and responsible, respecting the surrounding ecosystem of the vineyards. The latter are located at an altitude ranging from 70 to 450 meters above sea level; the mountain ranges of Monte Cesen and Col Visentin protect the rows from cold winds coming from the north, so that only moderate winds arrive, useful for perfect grape growth. The thermal excursions between day and night are also important. The grapes are harvested manually between September 15 and 30; in the winery, the bunches are gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with selected yeasts in steel and the sparkling process occurs between 25 and 30 days. It ages for 2 months in the bottle.
To the eye, the Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore “Prior” by Bortolomiol is a straw yellow with brilliant reflections, while the perlage is fine and persistent. The aromas recall white-fleshed fruits and white flowers such as jasmine combined with hints of aromatic herbs and citrus; on the palate, it is fresh, lively, and vibrant with a saltiness on the finish that balances the structure and invites glass after
