The 'Dandi' Vermouth di Toscana is a meeting of tradition and modernity. It is produced at Distilleria Indie in the province of Lucca, the first zero-impact distillery in Italy, from small-production Tuscan wines. On the nose it is complex and balanced, with intense hints of citrus me wine, with herbaceous hints dominating the finish. On the palate it is sweet and balanced, decidedly persistent. Ideal for aperitifs or cocktails, it is a tribute to the tradition of vermouth
Distilleria Indie's Vermouth di Toscana 'Dandi' is an interpretation of Italy's best-known aromatised wine that takes up the ancient tradition of Tuscan vermouth, designed by bartenders for bartenders. In fact, as early as 1773 the Tuscan author and physician Cosimo Villifranchi spoke of vermouth in his work 'Tuscan Oenology', even before the Piedmontese Antonio Benedetto Carpano began large-scale production in 1786. The ancient tradition of Tuscan vermouth is particularly linked to both the vast wine production that has always characterised the region and the flourishing spice trade that animated its cities. Here too, vermouth was originally appreciated for its medicinal properties, but later became popular for its pleasant organoleptic qualities.
Distilleria Indie Vermouth di Toscana 'Dandi' is made from a base of red wine produced in Tuscany combined with several fine botanicals, including Roman wormwood, dandelion and sweet orange, as well as a certain amount of sugar, which is essential to balance the bitter taste of the wormwood.
To the eye, Distilleria Indie's Vermouth di Toscana 'Dandi' reveals a deep garnet red colour. The fascinating aromatic bouquet expresses vivid sensations of citrus peel that combine with delicate herbaceous nuances of rhubarb. The sip is warm and savoury, with great persistence, perfectly balancing the restrained sweetness and the typical bitter aftertaste of vermouth. The producer himself suggests enjoying this vermouth chilled neat or with a few ice cubes, perhaps decorated with an orange or lemon peel. Also to be tried in mixology for the preparation of classic vermouth-based cocktails, such as the Negroni and the Americano.
