Argiolas Wines
Argiolas Wines
The wines of Argiolas are among the most famous enological expressions of the Sardinia region. Quality, innovation and strong territorial attachment have resulted in the production of high quality wines that enhance all the potential of a very wide and diverse territory. The main site with most of the vineyards is in fact located in the town of Serdiana, which is the ancient heart of southern Sardinia, although the winery includes four other estates that extend into the Sulcis area as far as the sea, for a total of around 230 hectares under vine.
The Production of Argiolas Wines
The wines of Argiolas are produced from the main grape varieties of the island such as Cannonau, Carignano and Vermentino, as well as from lesser known indigenous grapes such as Monica, Bovale, Nasco and Nuragus. Most of the grapes from which the excellent Argiolas wine is produced are grown on deep, brown hilly terrain between 250 and 350 metres above sea level, while respecting the traditions and ancient cultivation methods, such as the alberello system. In the winery the enologist Mariano Murru works with great professionalism and dedication by following the example of Giacomo Tachis, who created what has become the symbol of Argiolas wines, the Turriga, which is a red wine that is renowned for its strong and unique flavour. Fermentation is carried out in steel or cement vats at controlled temperatures and, for the more important and structured red wines, ageing is also carried out in French oak barrels and barriques.
The winery offers a high-level range that has become a true symbol of Sardinia. The production of Vermentino wines is very significant and is diversified into labels with different price ranges, from the simplest and most straightforward white wines, which are excellent as aperitifs or as an accompaniment to fish hors d'oeuvres, a typical feature of any quality white wine, to richer and more complex versions. The production of red wines is also very extensive and includes several blends from indigenous grapes. Every year Argiolas wines achieve important recognition from guides, critics and the public. Their success is the result of the constant focus on quality but also of a brilliant ability to communicate and make the most of the excellent characteristics of the territory.
