Barbaresco 'Faset' Roagna 2018

The Barbaresco 'Faset' of Roagna, a family of winemakers for five generations, is a full representation of the finesse typical of this Langhe red. The Faset cru, in the commune of Barbaresco, is located right next to the celebrated Asili cru, with which it shares soils rich in limestone. The nose opens with elegant floral notes followed by hints of red fruit and then elegant tertiary aromas, with subtle hints of cocoa and mint on the finish. An imposing wine in terms of structure but nevertheless agile and refined on the palate, a sign of a capable hand and a territory of great vocation

BARBARESCO 'FASET' ROAGNA 2018 DESCRIPTION

The prestigious Piedmontese winery Roagna presents its Barbaresco 'Faset', an expression of the Faset cru with a profound and lordly personality. This Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva (Additional Geographical Mention), which is located in the municipality of Barbaresco, where it borders another famous cru such as Asili, takes its name from the farmstead of the same name that stands among the vineyards. This is one of the plots closest to the Tanaro river, whose presence strongly influences the area's microclimate. The Barbaresco 'Faset', inaugurated by the Roagna family with the 2013 vintage, is always subjected to an ageing process that is much longer than that required by the Barbaresco regulations.

Roagna Barbaresco 'Faset' is a 100% Nebbiolo from vines grown on soils composed of calcareous clay, located at an altitude between 200 and 300 metres above sea level. Harvesting is carried out by hand in 10 kg crates and in the cellar the bunches, entirely destemmed, are vinified in red with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats triggered by pied de cuve, combined with a prolonged submerged cap maceration lasting 60 days. The subsequent ageing phase takes place in large oak casks, containers in which the wine remains for 60 long months before final bottling. This prolonged maturation process then allows the wine to be bottled without any clarification or filtration.

Roagna's 'Faset' Barbaresco has a garnet red colour with orange highlights. The complex array of aromas is defined by intense hints of cherry, blackcurrant, hibiscus and violet that meet refined hints of cocoa, mint, liquorice, cedar wood and pepper. On the palate it is impressive and delicate at the same time, with an elegant progression defined by a silky tannic texture and a long balsamic finish.
