The Barolo Brunate from the Piedmontese winery Batasiolo represents a rich and elegant expression of the La Morra territory, the municipality where the prestigious Brunate cru lies. This MGA, an acronym for “Additional Geographical Mention,” is located within a steep natural amphitheater that slopes down from La Morra to the municipality of Barolo. It is one of the most famous and appreciated crus of the entire denomination, renowned since ancient times for the quality of its Nebbiolo.
Batasiolo Barolo Brunate is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown within the Brunate cru in La Morra, at an altitude ranging between 300 and 400 meters above sea level. The soil, dating back to the Tortonian period, consists of fossil-rich Sant’Agata marl, abundant in limestone with the presence of clay and sand. After manual harvesting, the grapes are crushed in stainless steel fermenters, where alcoholic fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature with at least 10–12 days of maceration on the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is transferred to large Slavonian oak barrels for long aging of about two years, followed by additional refinement in steel and bottle before being released to the market.
Batasiolo’s Barolo Brunate displays an intense garnet red color with orange highlights. Its complex aromatic profile is characterized by scents of ripe plum, rose, violet, and dried fruits, adorned with balsamic nuances and pronounced hints of various spices. On the palate, it stands out for its richness and enveloping nature, as well as its good body and balanced tannins, all supported by a pleasant fresh-salty backbone. It is recommended to pair this Barolo with succulent main courses such as stews or braised red meats.
