Beniamino Fede's small winery was founded in 2009 out of the producer's love for his land, the same land where he spent the summers of his childhood. We are in Contrada Giurfo, in the Sicilian municipality of Licodia Eubea, within the production area of Cerasuolo di Vittoria. Here, once he reached retirement age, Beniamino felt the call of the countryside and decided to start his own winemaking business based on quality production, at the expense of quantity. For winemaking, the producer relies on the experience and expertise of the nearby Cantine Dimore di Giurfo.
Beniamino Fede has just 2 hectares of vines at his disposal, dedicated to the traditional varieties of the area, namely Nero d'Avola and Frappato. The vines, situated between 280 and 300 metres above sea level, are cultivated on soils rich in clay, sand, pebbles and limestone without the use of synthetic chemicals. The climate is typically Mediterranean and breezy, characterised by significant temperature fluctuations between day and night that favour optimal phenolic and aromatic ripening. Only steel silos are used as wine containers for spontaneous fermentation and ageing.
Beniamino Fede's selection includes three red wines whose labels are illustrated directly by Beniamino: a Cerasuolo di Vittoria, a Nero d'Avola and a Frappato. Three bottles that fully express the freshest and liveliest face of the Vittoria area, with its characteristic fruit in evidence. The estate's logo depicts a wolf on a promontory howling at the moon, chosen to symbolise the place of origin Licodia Eubea, a name derived from "lyucos", a term from the ancient Greek meaning "wolf". The names of two labels, 'Agrotys' and 'Dakry', also originate from Greek and mean 'farmer' and 'tear' respectively. Instead, the appellation for Nero d'Avola 'Sugnu Iano' comes from the nickname of Beniamino's father, Sebastiano.
