Charismatic and volcanic, Elio Altare is now considered a wine landmark in the Langhe. The origins of the winery, which Elio leads with energy and passion, date back to 1948, when grandfather Giuseppe moved from Dogliani to La Morra, buying a few hectares of vineyard; but the fundamental year for the history of the winery is 1976, when Elio, having returned from a trip he made to Burgundy to learn the most innovative techniques of wine cultivation and production, completely revolutionized the production philosophy of the family winery and all of Barolo, replacing the old barrels with barriques and selecting the vineyards: it was then that his father disinherited him, forcing him to buy back the winery and vineyards in 1985.

The fame and prestige Elio Altare enjoys today and the excellence of his wines show how time has proven him right. Just as he did 40 years ago, Elio, assisted by his wife and daughter, scrupulously and carefully oversees work in the vineyard and cellar. His viticulture is clean and does not use synthetic chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides. True to criteria of simplicity and naturalness, he does not operate filtrations and clarifications during the production phase, so as not to affect the structure and quality of the wine. In 2005, from the collaboration with Tonino Bonanni, the Campogrande project was also born: a beautiful wine reality in Liguria, in the hilly area of Cinque Terre.

Elio Altare's wines are the result of the splendid characteristics of the terroir but also of exhausted experimentation. Elegant, well-balanced and impeccable, Elio Altare's wines embody the modern and international spirit of the Langhe: a heritage that one never ceases to discover, but, above all, to drink.
