"Nizza" is a Barbera d'Asti from the Olim Bauda line, vinified in steel and aged for 30 months in French oak barrels. The olfactory identity card reads red fruit and sweet spices and anticipates a firm and balanced taste, with a fine taste-olfactory correspondence
Nizza Olim Bauda is a Barbera d'Asti of particular merit, enhancing the predisposition of this traditional Piedmontese grape variety, also to produce wines for long ageing, capable of expressing complex, rich, harmonious and evolved aromas. The period of barrel ageing tends to tame the exuberant freshness typical of young Barbera, giving the wine a softer and more balanced face, with aromas of ripe cherry, red fruit and pleasant spicy notes. It is a particular interpretation of Barbera, which is appreciated at the table with the rich and flavorful dishes typical of Piedmontese cuisine, particularly with roasted red meats.
Barbera Nizza Olim Bauda comes from a winery in the Asti area that has been involved in viticulture in the Incisa Scapaccino area for many generations. The Olim Bauda estate covers about thirty hectares, all cultivated in the beautiful hilly territory of Nizza Monferrato. This is one of the absolute most vocated areas for Barbera, a grape variety that has always been part of Piedmont's popular tradition. Its fresh and immediate nature has led this ancient wine to be almost always interpreted as an everyday, easy-drinking red. However, painstaking work in the vineyard to contain yields and the choice of the best plots have also brought out the more mature face of Barbera, which, ennobled by long ageing in wood, shows remarkable expressive potential and possesses the personality of a great red.
Nizza Olim Bauda red wine is made from the best grapes selected by hand during the harvest. After pressing, the must ferment on the skins in stainless steel tanks. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels for about 30 months, followed by an additional period of ageing in the bottle before release. In the glass, it has an intense, dark purple-red colour. The nose opens on aromas of ripe cherry, morello cherry, red fruit, hints of spice and nuances of herbs. The sip is full and rich, with ripe, expressive fruit and a subtle, evolved tannic texture. The finish is pleasantly spicy, long and persistent.
