Bianco d'Alessano Petracavallo 2021

Bianco d'Alessano Petracavallo 2021

Petracavallo

Petracavallo winery's Bianco d'Alessano is a white wine macerated a few days in contact with the skins, from which it acquires its characteristic golden hue and intense aromatic profile. The palate is fresh, dynamic and flowing, slightly savory on the finish, while the nose offers notes of summer fruit, citrus zest and scents of Mediterranean scrub. A deeply territorial wine, made from Bianco d'Assano, a rare native Apulian grape variety

BIANCO D'ALESSANO PETRACAVALLO 2021 DESCRIPTION

Petracavallo's Bianco d'Alessano is a macerated white wine from Apulia that is appreciated for its vibrant, dynamic and flavourful taste. It is a pure expression of Bianco d'Alessano, an ancient indigenous grape variety that the winery has helped to enhance by saving it from oblivion. Traditionally grown in the Itria Valley and Terra delle Gravine, where the Petracavallo winery is based, Bianco d'Alessano was put aside due to its low productivity, a factor that led local farmers to prefer the much more productive Verdeca. Through a short maceration on the skins, the winery then manages to make up for the rather pale colour of this grape by providing instead an intensely coloured expression that the producer himself likes to call 'the gold of Apulia'.

Petracavallo Bianco d'Alessano is made exclusively from grapes of the white berry variety of the same name grown within the municipality of Mottola on clay and limestone soils at an altitude of around 280 metres above sea level. After harvesting, the grapes are transferred to the cellar and mellowed in stainless steel tanks for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by a few days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent ageing phase also takes place in stainless steel for 6 months and a further 4 months in the bottle before the final release. Furthermore, throughout the entire production process, the liquid does not undergo any clarification or filtration.

The macerated white wine of Puglia Bianco d'Alessano Petracavallo has a brilliant golden-yellow colour. The aromatic spectrum is articulated on perceptions of summer fruit, yellow flowers, Mediterranean scrub and fresh hints of orange peel. Flowing, vibrant and taut on the palate, with a vibrant freshness that is accompanied by a pleasant savoury timbre on the finish.
