DOLCETTO D'ALBA VAJRA 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Dolcetto d'Alba from the family-run Vajra estate takes the form of a red wine with a convivial and lively spirit produced in the Langhe, a famous area of lower Piedmont. Aldo Vaira, the founder of the winery, was a forerunner of his time as he began applying organic farming principles to the vineyards as early as the early 1970s. Today he runs the estate together with his wife Milena and children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro, in a close-knit family picture driven by a great passion for wine production, the production that takes place with particular regard to traditional Langhe grape varieties such as Dolcetto.

Vajra Dolcetto d'Alba is produced with only Dolcetto grapes from several estate vineyards, characterized by an average age of 25-30 years and conducted organically. Following the harvest, the clusters are transferred to the winery and subjected to classic red vinification, with 15-20 days of alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, during which extraction is ensured by daily punching-down. Also, in stainless steel takes place complete malolactic fermentation and the maturation of several months precedes bottling and final release.

The colour of Vajra's Dolcetto d'Alba is deep purplish red. Vivid fruit aromas of morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry emerge from the glass, enriched by perceptions of herbs, underbrush and pepper. Balanced and smooth on the sip, with lovely freshness and refined tannins accompanying the typically almondy finish. This is a Dolcetto endowed with excellent versatility in food-wine pairing, which can be paired with boards of aged cheeses and cured meats, mushroom risottos or white or red meat preparations.
