ETNA BIANCO COTTANERA 2022 DESCRIPTION

Cottanera's Etna Bianco is a pure Carricante, expressing the best characteristics of this grape historically grown on the slopes of Mongibello. It is the label that best represents the varietal notes of a high quality grape and the particular profile of the volcanic terroir. The considerable temperature excursions and lava soils enhance the fresh, citrusy and savoury profile of the wine, which delivers a flowing sip of vibrant flavour fragrance. Vinification in stainless steel allows a direct and immediate appreciation of its elegant aromatic finesse. Very pleasant to drink young, it is a white that also possesses good ageing potential.

Etna Bianco wine comes from one of the most important estates in the northern area of the volcano. The Cottanera estate is located in the Castiglione di Sicilia area and covers about 60 hectares, divided into numerous parcels, cultivated in different Contrade. Carricante grapes come from the vineyards of Contrade Cottanera and Diciassettesalme, located at an altitude of about 750 meters above sea level. The area's climate is cool and breezy, and the vines are planted on lava matrix soils with alluvial components and the presence of clay. At the end of manual harvesting, which usually takes place towards the end of September, the best grapes undergo cold maceration for about 24 hours before fermentation in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16 °C for about three weeks. Before bottling, the wine matures in steel tanks on fine lees for about six months.

Etna Bianco from the Sicilian winery Cottanera expresses the authentic character of a unique place in the world. The presence of a volcano over three thousand meters high in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea creates extreme pedoclimatic conditions rich in contrasts, combining mountain viticulture with mild sea breezes. The result is a light yellow wine with light golden hues, expressing aromas of white flowers, fragrances of citrus, grapefruit, lime, white-fleshed fruit aromas, hints of herbs and iodine nuances. The breath is taut and saline, lively and clear, with harmonious fruit and a fresh, mineral closure.
