KERNER 'CARNED' CANTINA DI CALDARO KALTERN 2022 DESCRIPTION

The white wine "Carned" is a pure Kerner, a little-known grape variety that, in Italy, finds one of the rare places of election in the Alto Atesino terroir. The Cantina di Caldaro, a cooperative of regional reference, is a master at presenting this grape with an exotic profile in its aromas, a prelude to a precise and careful sip, refreshing to the palate. A bottle that deserves space in every wine lover's cellar.

This "Carned" Kerner comes from the pure use of a particular grape, Kerner. This is a variety created in Germany in 1929, the end result of which brings it very close to Riesling, which is strongly adapted to being grown in the mountains and is, therefore, at home in South Tyrol. The vines, which are between 10 and 30 years old, are trained using the pergola and guyot systems in vineyards located at an elevation of about 700 meters above sea level, characterized by a sandy, clayey subsoil. Once the grapes are harvested and brought to the winemaking rooms of the Kaltern Winery, they ferment slowly at a temperature of 18 degrees, either in steel or in wood, where the fermentation process takes place spontaneously. Ageing takes place in steel for five months, a period during which the wine remains in contact with the fine lees.

Kerner "Carned" white wine reveals itself to the eye with a colour reminiscent of straw yellow, very intense. The olfactory profile develops on an aromatic texture, with notes of fruit, even exotic, enriched by a slight nuance that brings back coconut milk. On the palate, it is full-bodied and medium-textured, with a sip marked by a pleasantly fresh vein, which encourages repeated drinking with just the right intensity. A white made by the Caldaro Winery that lends itself well to tasting with fresh cheeses or fish dishes, even raw.
