The importance of respecting and preserving tradition is becoming increasingly widespread, not only in the world of wine. It is a way of paying tribute to a past that has shaped us, acknowledging those who came before. For Mario Marengo, everything is much simpler: the past coexists with the present, in an agricultural and winemaking style that has never changed. Today, Marco is respected and praised as one of the most talented, calm and rigorous winemakers in the La Morra area, thanks to the strong winemaking genes inherited from both his father's DNA and that of the previous generations, who founded this winery in the early 20th century. Located in the heart of La Morra, with a total of 7 hectares of vineyards distributed in the best cru of the area, the idea of producing wines that are unique to the territory is still being pursued. These are ''Barolo di Barolo'' wines, continuing the tradition of those made by his father and his grandfather before him. The only difference? In the cellar, barriques are now used for the long ageing of the Nebbiolo, although they are used quite sparingly. In the final wine glass, this difference is practically unnoticeable, as the use is not excessive, resulting in a perfectly balanced, pure taste.
The Mario Marengo winery has the great advantage of owning vineyards in the commune of La Morra with perfect exposures, especially in Brunate and Bricco delle Viole, at an altitude of 350 metres, and mostly facing south. In addition, Eugenia Battaglino, Marco's wife, has joined the Marengo family, contributing with her dowry of Roero vineyards from Valmaggiore, one of the most favourable areas of the Roero, which enjoy excellent sunshine throughout the day.

Besides the Barolo, which is the undisputed king of Piedmontese wines, the Mario Marengo winery also successfully cultivates the region's traditional red grape varieties, such as Dolcetto and Barbera. These are made from grapes grown in the Pugnane vineyard in the town of Castiglione Falletto. Integrated pest management is adopted in the vineyard, with only copper and sulphur being used, while in the cellar a pied de cuve is used to trigger fermentation. All the vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, while small wooden barrels are preferred for ageing. This winery is a splendid example of an authentic winemaker from the Langhe region of Piedmont!
