MERLOT 'NO LAND VINEYARD' FERLAT 2021 DESCRIPTION

Merlot 'No Land Vineyard' is a Friulian label with an intensely fruity and spicy aromatic profile produced by the artisanal winery Ferlat. Like other international grape varieties that are firmly established in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, particularly in the Collio area, Merlot occupies a prominent role as the most widely cultivated red grape in the region. The Friulian expressions of this variety reach qualitative heights with few equals in the rest of the Peninsula, especially when it is worked with great care and low yields as in the case of the estate of Federica Tabacchi and Moreno Ferlat, young producers armed with passion and enthusiasm.
Ferlat's 'No Land Vineyard' Merlot is made exclusively from grapes of the variety of the same name grown in accordance with the principles of certified organic agriculture, thus using only copper and sulphur in plant protection and without the use of herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilisers. Following the harvest, the grapes are first destemmed and crushed, with the subsequent alcoholic fermentation taking place in cement vats using only indigenous yeasts, accompanied by 20 days of maceration during which delicate extraction techniques such as manual punching-down is applied. After racking, the mass is transferred to old 5-6 hectolitre oak tonneaux for malolactic fermentation and ageing for approximately 15 months.
'No Land Vineyard' Ferlat Merlot is deep ruby red in colour with violet hues. The nose shows rich and intense fruity and spicy aromas of ripe red and black fruits and sweet spices, accompanied by hints of liquorice and slightly toasted nuances. The palate begins round and enveloping, soon enlivened by elegant freshness and delicate tannins in a fruity and balsamic progression consistent with the nose.
