Pic-Saint-Loup 'Simon' Clos Marie 2017
ArtisanalClos Marie’s Pic-Saint-Loup "Simon" is a red produced with the blend of grapes that made this corner of France famous: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. A production inspired by the great reds of the Rhone, finding its own personal imprint. Of great precision and finesse, with aromas of red fruits and dried flowers, such as violet. Really exceptional with grilled meat or semi-aged cheeses.
The Pic-Saint-Loup “Simon” by Clos Marie originates in Lauret, an area located between the AOC Pic Saint-Loup and Coteaux-du-Languedoc. The winery was founded in 1995 thanks to the passion and experience of Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien, who immediately knew how to cultivate their 20 hectares of land to the best, improving excellently over time, reaching unexpected milestones. With the awareness that nature is an invaluable heritage that must be preserved and respected, they opted for biodynamic agriculture, so that every phase of growth and development can take place at the right times.
The vineyards of Pic-Saint-Loup “Simon” by Clos Marie are made up of plants over 100 years old, and each individual plot is cultivated with care, in order to highlight all the organoleptic potential for a final product of unique quality. The soil composition is varied and one can find gravel, limestone, marlstone, and debris of fluvial origin; the climate is temperate thanks to the influence of the breezes coming from the Ligurian Sea. The harvest is done manually and in the winery the alcoholic fermentation is spontaneous thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts in wood. It ages for 14 months in oak barrels.
The color of the Pic-Saint-Loup “Simon” by Clos Marie is an intense ruby red with brilliant reflections. The bouquet of aromas recalls red-fleshed fruits such as cherries and blackberries and summer red flowers, while on the palate it presents rich and velvety, with a body structure and pleasant tannin presence for an interesting drink. It pairs perfectly with grilled red meat dishes, local game, and first courses with important sauces; excellent also with aged cheeses. A product with authentic flavors that is perfect for sipping during winter evenings in front of a warm fireplace to enjoy all the potential of this part of the French territory.
