PRIMITIVO GIOIA DEL COLLE 'MURO SANT'ANGELO' TENUTE CHIAROMONTE 2020 DESCRIPTION

Primitivo Gioia del Colle Tenute Chiaromonte 'Muro Sant'Angelo' is a full-bodied red wine that testifies to the very high level of quality of Primitivo di Gioia del Colle. In fact, this area of the Murge plateau represents, along with Manduria, the area of choice for Primitivo. Compared to that Tarantino, Primitivo di Gioia del Colle shows greater finesse and verticality due to the cooler climate and calcareous soils while maintaining the wine's characteristic powerful and robust style.

'Muro Sant'Angelo' Primitivo Gioia del Colle from Tenute Chiaromonte is a 100% Primitivo grown organically on mainly limestone soils 330 meters above sea level. The vines, aged between 30 and 40 years, are trained to the Apulian alberello system with full southern exposure. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, and the grapes are then mellowed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation followed by a full 24 months of maturation, thus without the use of wood that might weigh down the varietal and territorial expression. The mass is finally placed in the bottle without undergoing any filtration and rests for about 6 months in a glass before release.

Tenute Chiaromonte Primitivo Gioia del Colle 'Muro Sant'Angelo' has a dark ruby red colour with violet hues. Intense and sharp hints of red and black fruits, blueberry and plum emerge from the glass, enriched by notes of liquorice and sweet spices such as cocoa and carob. The warmth and voluminous body on the palate is well supported by taut freshness and exuberant tannins that accompany the long, soft finish reminiscent of the olfactory sensations. Because of its important structure, this Primitivo should be paired with savoury dishes such as first and second courses of meat or aged cheeses.
