Podere Il Carnasciale is a Tuscan winery with a unique dimension, closely related to Caberlot, a grape variety derived from a spontaneous cross between the noble Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Franc and Merlot, hence the name. It was agronomist Remigio Bordini who discovered the hybrid in an abandoned vineyard in the Euganean Hills, Veneto, in the 1960s. In the early 1980s, the German Wolf Rogosky, an internationally renowned publicist, tasted a Caberlot-based wine produced by winemaker Vittorio Fiore and immediately fell in love with it. So together with his wife Bettina, with whom he was already thinking of investing in a wine production in Tuscany, he decided to bet everything on this rare variety, initially known by the initials L32, renamed by Wolf as Caberlot. The place chosen for the project was Mercatale Valdarno, in the hills of the province of Arezzo, close to the border between Chianti and Valdarno. Here, the tradition of Podere Il Carnasciale is carried on today by Moritz Rogosky together with his mother Bettina.

The Podere Il Carnasciale property includes just over 5 hectares of vineyards, planted with the black grape varieties Caberlot and Sangiovese. The plots are settled on sandy soils rich in skeleton, at an altitude between 200 and 425 meters above sea level. Agronomic management is based on the principles of agriculturecertified organic and harvesting is done entirely by hand with careful selection of grapes. Small steel tanks and concrete vats are adopted for vinification, containers in which alcoholic fermentation is accompanied by daily manual punching-down, aimed at gently extracting the noblest components contained in the skins. Instead, aging takes place in new French oak barrels or large casks and is followed by long stops in the bottle before the wine is finally placed on the market. Along the entire production process, filtering operations are then excluded.

'Il Caberlot' represents Podere Il Carnasciale's flagship wine, an elegant red wine with important structure, originally marketed exclusively in magnum size. This label is produced through a selection of the best barrels, with the remainder destined for Rosso 'Carnasciale'.
