RIESLING MOSEL SPATLESE URZIGER WURZGARTEN DR. LOOSEN 2019 DESCRIPTION

Riesling Mosel Spatlese Ürziger Würzgarten from the renowned German winery Dr. Loosen is a particularly aromatically intense version of Riesling. According to German classification, in fact, the term Spatlese is used for wines made from grapes of a late vintage, which have accumulated more sugar and concentrated aromas. It is an interpretation in the sign of the ripeness of the fruit, of the persuasive softness of the taste, accentuated by the presence of an important residual sugar, well balanced by the typical mineral freshness of Riesling, which makes the drink dynamic and satisfying.

Mosel Spatlese Ürziger Würzgarten is a Riesling produced by one of the most prestigious estates in the Mosel region. The Dr. Loosen estate has vineyards on several parcels that have always been considered among the best in the business, capable of yielding outstanding labels. The vineyards are cultivated on steep slopes, which slope down to the river near the village of Bernkastel. The cool, breezy climate, splendid exposures facing mostly south, soils rich in ardesia and volcanic soils, combined with vine ages that often exceed 60 years, are the ingredients that make Dr. Loosen's Rieslings great. In the vineyard, treatments are kept to a minimum, and the vines produce grapes of the highest quality with low yields. The work in the cellar is aimed at enhancing a great raw material, especially highlighting the differences of each vineyard with separate vinifications.

Riesling Mosel Spatlese Ürziger Würzgarten wine from the Dr. Loosen winery comes from the vineyard of the same name, which is characterized by a red earth soil of volcanic origin, located in a beautiful amphitheatre at a bend in the river. This parcel grows the oldest vines on the estate, which are still planted with free-range vines, producing grapes of a particular richness. Fermentation takes place partly in steel tanks and partly in barrels, and the wine matures several months before bottling. In the glass, it has a straw-yellow colour. The bouquet expresses intense aromas of white flowers, peach, gooseberry, ripe yellow fruit, tropical fruit and soft spices. The palate is broad, and complex, with juicy, ripe aromas, shot through with an energetic freshness, which flows into a mineral finish.
