The Willm family founded the Domaine in 1896 in the small town of Barr in central Alsace, on the slopes of the renowned Grand Cru Kirchberg appellation. Owners of Clos Gaensbroennel, one of the most famous and important plots in the world that produce Gewurztraminer, were among the first French companies to market their wine overseas. In fact, in the early 1930s, just after the end of the era of American prohibition, their Alsatian wines were the first to be exported to the United States through transatlantic ships. Legend has it that in 1939 bottles of the famous Clos Gaensbroennel were found in the private cellar of the mafia Al Capone. In addition Willm Alsace also made success in the gastronomic field; its famous escargots à l'Alsacienne, cooked according to an ancient family recipe, were appreciated throughout the region. It took a short time and the bottles of the maison became a landmark of the Alsatian wine world, conquering markets around the world, from Japan to Italy, from South America to Canada. A success that continues to this day, to the point that from 2016 the Earls of Andlau, owners of the Chateau d'Ittenwiller, located in the heart of the vineyards of the Lower Rhine near Bar and considered one of the 3 Alsatian vineyards that can boast the appellation "Chateau", was entrusted to the Willm family.

The vines cultivated by Alsace Willm are, as always in this area, mainly white berries, including Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Muscat. The vines enjoy a dry and sunny climate and have their roots in a granite soil of clay and limestone matrix. A sensitive approach to the territory allows every year to sprout healthy grapes of excellent quality. Next to the vines also grow a large amount of fruit trees, also used to produce ciders, brandy and distillates.

Alsace Willm wines show the fine and elegant face of Alsace. Bianchi and Cremant which, despite being produced with aromatic grapes, are very clean, fresh and precise expressions, mainly from a single grape, witnesses of a prestigious terroir and of a centuries-old family tradition.
