Francesca, Andrea and Chiara are the three 40-year-olds who, in 2008, decided to set up the Tunia winery in Tuscany's Chiana Valley. It is located in the province of Arezzo, amidst woods, hills, vineyards and olive groves, not far from Dorna Castle, which is a complex of Longobard origin where wine production has been documented since ancient times. The three souls of Tunia share the tasks: Francesca, a biologist and enologist, is in charge of production, Chiara, who has a degree in economics, is in charge of the commercial side, while Andrea is in charge of the financial aspects, linked to development strategies. The key word in the Tunia winery's production is 'organic'. The aim is to produce labels that are faithful expressions of the grapes used, the terroir of origin and the years spent in the vineyard. This is a winery with a very precise vision, whose name, "Tunia", in the Etruscan pantheon referred to the divinity who presided over the ripening of the fruit. What better omen, then, for a range of genuine, high quality labels?

The vineyards of the Tunia winery cover an area of about 15 hectares, in the Chiana Valley, which is a terroir historically devoted to quality viticulture. The rows of vines include both native and international varieties. In particular, the oldest vineyards, which account for 10 of the total 15 hectares and are almost 50 years old, are planted with Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo and Trebbiano grapes, while in 2005 some plots were planted with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety. More recently, in 2010, old Trebbiano vines were grafted onto Vermentino. The vines are grown using two different training systems, spurred cordon and Guyot. In the vineyard and in the cellar, all operations are carried out in the most natural way possible, following organic agricultural principles. No substances are used, apart from a minimal dose of sulphites, only when deemed necessary.

Every year the Tunia winery produces five different wines, all of which are the result of Francesca, Andrea and Chiara's desire to challenge themselves. These bottles, created in perfect harmony with nature and the surrounding environment, certainly deserve more than just a taste. If you really don't know where to start, then start with Chiarofiore, which is a white wine blend of Trebbiano and Vermentino that will conquer you from the very first sip!
