Tracy-sur-Loire is a village of a thousand souls in Burgundy, not far from Sancerre, dominated by a castle on a cliff overlooking the Loire. Here the seat of the "maison" Chateau de Tracy, owned by the Counts of Estutt of Assay, ancient family of Scottish descent, whose ancestors arrived in the fifteenth century in France with the army of Stuard to skirt the armies of Charles VII that, as a thank you, granted them French citizenship and the rule of Assay. Very long would tell the story of this family to this day, a history of important figures such as Lafayette and Jefferson, then ambassador to the US, of important weddings with the elite of the French nobility and high positions in the various governments of France. More recently, an important date for this ancient and prestigious Maison is 1948, the year in which Jacqueline de Tracy inherits the property, and two years later, in 1950, married the Count Alain d'Assay, initiating a radical restructuring of the vineyards and cellars. The "domaine" now covers an area of 32 hectares of vineyards, and is managed by Count Henry d'Assay, assisted by two of his three sisters, with the precise intention to intervene as little as possible in the cultivation of vines, letting nature take its course and devoting an almost obsessive attention to the selection of grapes and winemaking. In the vineyards, divided into several "parcelles" is grown only Sauvignon, which is housed in a soil rich in silica and limestone, particularly favorable to its development.
