Dislivelli, a young winery in Valtellina, was founded in 2020 by Gian Piero Ioli, an architect and producer who combined his passion for the mountains and his love of Nebbiolo, shaping this artisanal winery with an Alpine spirit. Specifically, Gian Piero inherited an interest in viticulture from his maternal grandparents and an attraction to the mountain environment from his father's lineage. The winery, located in the heart of old Sondrio at Palazzo Guicciardi, is striking for its refined essentiality. In addition, in the same historic 18th-century palace, where Garibaldi lived in 1859, Gian Piero has inaugurated together with winemaker Alberto Marsetti and artist Daniele Pigoni a charming accommodation facility.
The Dislivelli estate has just one hectare of vineyard, located in Sassella, in the Baffo subzone, just above the historic Rocce Rosse plot. The vines are located at an elevation between 400 and 450 meters above sea level and rest on very steep slopes torn from the mountain, characterized by slopes of more than 30 percent and rocky outcrops from the Wurmian ice age, with abundant presence of stones, gravel, clay, iron and sand. The area, cultivated in a highly sustainable manner following the principles of organic farming, is entirely reserved for Chiavennasca, a variety that has written the enological history of the area. In addition, the vineyard experiments with the use of non-impactful rock dust and sodium bicarbonate in place of the classic copper and sulfur treatments required by organic farming. Fermentations are carried out whole-berry in Clayver ceramic barrels thanks to the exclusive intervention of indigenous yeasts, accompanied by a very prolonged maceration on the skins of up to 120 days. The ensuing aging period also takes place solely in ceramic, thus without the impactful use of wood.
From this absolutely essential approach come the pure and sincere expressions of Dislivelli, capable of conveying both the mountain character of Valtellina and the ancestral dimension typical of artisanal wines.
