The Antica Distilleria di Altavilla is a historic grappa reality, an all-Piedmontese excellence that draws its strength from ancient traditions, handed down from father to son for as many as six generations of the Mazzetti family. The distillery was founded in 1846 by the progenitor Filippo Mazzetti and the business has continued uninterruptedly for more than a century and a half, managed today by the great-grandson of the same name Filippo Mazzetti, assisted by his wife Laura and sons Fabrizio and Alessandro.

The method of production from the Antica Distilleria di Altavilla is still that of traditional discontinuous distillation, with copper stills powered by steam boilers. The raw materials are composed only of fresh Piedmontese pomace from typical local grape varieties: Ruché, Moscato, Nebbiolo da Barolo, Grignolino, Malvasia di Casorzo, Brachetto, Barbera, Chardonnay and Freisa. To use only the freshest raw materials of the highest quality, distillation is carried out only during the months of October and November, when the pomace is purchased immediately after vinification from various wineries in Monferrato and the Langhe. The slow and patient processes contribute to the finesse and high digestibility of the distillates produced, sometimes marketed young and sometimes aged in small barrels.

The grappas of the Antica Distilleria di Altavilla represent an important page of history of Italian distillation but also a point of reference and an absolute certainty of quality for enthusiasts. Besides offering a historical testimony of important value, they impose themselves as a model of high quality. The excellence of the labels produced stems from the rigorous and faithful adherence to traditional, artisanal methods that have remained virtually unchanged over the centuries. These grappas are lifebloods of the Piedmont territory, the quintessence of Monferrato and its famous typical grape varieties.
