Cardhu distillery is famous for its sweet Single Malts, exceptionally smooth and soft, even silky, typical of the Scottish region of Speyside. Located near the village of Knockando, on Mannoch hills above the River Spey, the distillery has a breathtaking view of the incredible mountain range of Ben Rinnes; its name comes from the Gaelic Carn Dubh, which means "Black Rock".

Cardhu was founded in 1824 under the name of Cardow by John and Helen Cumming, a family of farmers who produced whisky illegally. It is said that Helen sell jugs of illegal whisky from the kitchen window! In 1872, at the death of Lewis, the son whose father had left the business, the wife Elizabeth took over the distillery, directing it for almost 20 years and becoming known as "the Queen of Whisky". In 1893 Cardow was sold to the Johnnie Walker & Son and Cardhu became a mixture key component of the famous blended. Between 1960 and 1961 the distillery was rebuilt and expanded, passing from 4 to 6 stills, inaugurating the production of Single Malt. In 1981 the name was changed permanently to Cardhu.

The water of its Single Malt comes from Mannoch Hill and Lyne Burn, clear Scottish sources, which enhance the slow process of distillation of the distillery where the whisky matures at least 12 years in oak barrels specially selected. The result is a whisky that well reflect the sweet and refreshing character of Speyside, just like thewoman's touch that has characterized Cardhu in its history.
