The Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 'Prope' from the Velenosi winery is a rosé wine with fascinating fruity and floral aromas very characteristic of the type. The 'Prope' range originates from the estate's vineyards located in Abruzzo, specifically in the Controguerra area bordering the Marche town of Ascoli, home of the Velenosi family. In fact, the appellation 'Prope' comes from Latin and means 'close to', symbolising precisely the proximity between the Marche and Abruzzo vineyards owned by the Velenosi winery, separated by a thin border. The illustration of the labels is then inspired by the works of Osvaldo Licini, a Marche painter with a rebellious and melancholic soul.
Velenosi Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 'Prope' is a 100% Montepulciano from vineyards located in the Controguerra area, planted on medium-textured soils rich in skeleton at an altitude between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. Only grapes specially selected for rosé vinification are used in the production of this Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, harvested in the first ten days of September and de-stemmed. This is followed by a brief cryomaceration of about 6 hours, aimed at extracting the aromatic compounds, and then the soft pressing of the grapes. The must thus obtained is conveyed into stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, which takes place at a controlled temperature of 14-15 °C, and again in stainless steel the wine matures for a few months on the fine lees.
Velenosi's 'Prope' Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo has a brilliant, bright pink colour. The nose initially reveals floral sensations of rose and violet, followed by notes of redcurrant and raspberry. The palate is savoury and enveloping, with good structure and freshness, characterised by a persistent finish on notes of red fruits and flowers on the nose.
