FRAPPATO 'JUNCO' PELLEGRINO 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Frappato 'Junco' from the renowned Sicilian winery Pellegrino stands out for its intriguing fruity and spicy aromatic profile. This wine-producing estate, which boasts approximately 150 hectares of vineyards, has several estates scattered throughout the island. The grapes destined for the 'Junco' come from the Tenuta Gazzerotta, located in the territory of Mazara del Vallo, in the province of Trapani, where the Pellegrino family manages three vineyards dedicated to as many different varieties, including Frappato. The name 'Junco' originates from the reeds surrounding the small lake adjacent to the approximately 2.5-hectare vineyard.

The Pellegrino 'Junco' Frappato is a 100% Frappato from vines grown in a single parcel resting on clay soil rich in mineral substances. After the harvest, usually carried out in September, the grapes are vinified into red wine through a long alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures and a gentle skin maceration. The wine then matures in steel containers for 4 months before bottling and final commercialization.

The Pellegrino 'Junco' Frappato has a delicate garnet red color. The nose is pleasant with fruity aromas of raspberry and wild strawberries blending with floral sensations of rose and violet. Excellent balance on the palate, where the typical softness of Sicilian wines is accompanied by a pleasant fresh-savory component and well-integrated tannins that anticipate the smooth fruity finish. It is an excellent versatile red wine for food pairing, as it can be paired with a wide range of dishes, including assorted cheese and charcuterie boards, dishes based on lightly or moderately structured white or red meats, and even seafood dishes, especially with flavorful fish such as tuna and swordfish.
